Copywriting for Small Businesses, Part 1
So, it finally happened. After long and hard work, the business you dreamed of is finally a reality. You are an entrepreneur. But now what? How do you reach your dream audience? How do you make them resonate with your brand? Should your brand voice be funny (you are known to be hilarious), or should it be more professional? Or wait, maybe somber? Your friend told you that you should hire a copywriter to help you. Or a content writer? Who knows? You just want to focus on quality, finance, distribution, etc.
If marketing was never a passion of yours, you are in the right place. I have decided to dedicate a few free blog posts to explain what all these terms mean and how they can help you with your business, regardless of which phase it is in.
What is copywriting?
Copywriting is the process of creating original, written content to promote a product, service, or idea. Through this process, a copywriter combines research, psychology, and marketing with creative writing to produce a piece in the form of:
Landing Pages
Mass Emails
Sales Letters
Blog Posts
Banner ads
Etc.
Here’s a link where you can find written samples of some of these terms.
The final piece should be appealing to your targeted audience, meaning that it should be eye-catching, short enough so it doesn’t bore the reader, and long enough to properly inform the reader what problem or pain you can solve for them.
Ok, but what is content writing?
Content writing is also a form of commercial writing with a few key differences from copywriting, such as:
Purpose- while copywriting is intended to sell, content writing purposes are mainly to inform, educate, or entertain.
Time frame- good copywriting usually has short-term effects, while the effects of content writing are measured long-term.
Style- as I mentioned before copywriting should have shorter form in order to grab your audiences’ attention and lead them to a desired action. On the other hand content writing should have a longer form because the intent is different.
Hopefully, this cleared some things up. If you have further questions please let me know. In the meantime stay tuned for the Part 2 of this blog.
